Council likely to proceed with library project

On the heels of a recommendation made earlier this week by the Community Services executive committee to award the tender to Aurora Construction for the building of the new Fort Frances Public Library and Technology, town council will make the final vote at its regular meeting this coming Monday (June 22).
As reported in Monday’s Daily Bulletin, a much-anticipated funding announcement from the provincial and federal government for more than $1.967 million came through Friday afternoon.

Even more funding for library

In another good news story for the proposed Fort Frances Public Library and Technology Centre, the town received official word yesterday it will be getting funding from FedNor it had applied for more than a year ago.
Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig confirmed the project will be getting $170,000 from FedNor.

This funding is to be used to purchase equipment for the technology centre.

Future library’s ‘teen zone’ gets boost

The new Fort Frances Library Public Library and Technology Centre received another funding boost last week thanks to the Royal Bank of Canada.
“On behalf of the RBC, I’m proud to present this gift of $25,000 in support of the new library and technology centre,” local branch manager Heather Johnson announced last Thursday.

The “Building for the Future” campaign had been driving to raise the final $35,000 needed to meet its fundraising goal of $750,000 in recent weeks, but overwhelming community support actually pushed that total to just under $89,500.
That, in turn, boosted the overall campaign total to nearly $804,500.
